Men's Swimming & Diving Wins Five Events in Tri-Meet

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Union College men's swimming & diving team won five events during its tri-meet against Hartwick College and Springfield College at the Sally Griffiths Herbert '88 Aquatic Center, but the Garnet Chargers fell 182.50-111.50 against Springfield and 181-113 to the host school, Hartwick on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Drew Hill and first-year Tripp Kennedy led the way with two individual event victories each. Kennedy got to the top of the podium first with a 1:46.30 performance in the 200 freestyle. He also won the 200 backstroke with a season-best 2:04.10. He posted the fastest 200 back time of any of his teammates this season, and it is the 22nd-best time in the Liberty League this season.

Hill's victories came in the 100 backstroke and the 100 butterfly. His 55.73 in the 100 back represented a lifetime best and the best time by any Garnet Charger this season.

Hill, first-year Lucas Miller, first-year Troy Luley, and senior Benjamin Sperling began the meet with a 1:41.25 in the 200 medley relay, finishing second. First-year Emlen Lease led off Union's other relay squad in that event, earning a lifetime best in the 50 back and finishing his leg in 28.26. Lease also was the top Union performer in the 100 breaststroke, placing fifth (1:05.46).

Luley placed third in the 1,000 freestyle, securing the best time in that event by any Union swimmer this season.

Miller placed second in the 200 butterfly (2:05.11), Kennedy placed third in the 50 freestyle (22.98), and Luley rounded out Union's podium finishers with a second-place finish in the 200 individual medley.

Miller also was the top performer in Garnet & Black during the 500 freestyle, placing fourth, and junior Gavin Baltes placed sixth in the 100 freestyle with a 51.63.

Baltes secured a lifetime best in the 50 free (23.35), sophomore Myles Gronbach enjoyed a season-best swim in the 100 fly, and Miller posted a season-best 2:07.97 in the 200 IM.
