Women's Swimming & Diving Splits at Tri-Meet

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Union College women's swimming & diving team split its tri-meet at the Sally Griffiths Herbert '88 Aquatic Center on Saturday afternoon, defeating Springfield College 170-124 and falling to the host Hawks of Hartwick College 175-118.

Union defeated the Pride from Springfield for the first time since Jan. 6, 2007, snapping a 16-meet losing streak.

The Garnet Chargers' win over Springfield was fueled by four individual event victories from junior Chloe Matthews, first-year Maggie Reale, junior Jess Konsky, and first-year Julia Garber. Matthews, Reale, Konsky, and junior Grace Furtado tacked on a fifth event victory at the end of the meet, completing the 400 freestyle relay in 3:52.28.

While Matthews won the 200 freestyle with a 2:03.42, she also secured the fastest 500 freestyle time by any Garnet Charger this season (5:37.28) and placed second in that event with a lifetime-best swim.

Reale won the 100 freestyle (57.22), Konsky championed the 200 backstroke (2:15.41), and Garber touched the wall first during the 100 butterfly (1:03.91).

Konsky, Matthews, first-year Ali Sweeney, and Reale led off the afternoon with a second-place performance in the 200 medley relay (1:58.42).

Among other second-place performances, Garber placed second in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.12), junior Samantha Picciotti went 2:25.26 in the 200 butterfly, Reale registered a 26.46 in the 50 freestyle, and Sweeney posted a 2:42.18 in the 200 breaststroke.

Konsky earned Union's final podium spot with a third-place performance in the 100 backstroke (1:04.73). Union's other top swimmers featured sophomore Maddie Stanley in the 200 individual medley (2:27.99), finishing fourth, and first-year Cate Kavanaugh in fifth place during the 1,000 freestyle (12:25.09).

Including Matthews' lifetime-best 500 free time, Union posted six season-best swims. Garber posted her fastest 100 free time of 2025-26 (58.32), Picciotti had a season-best 50 free performance, senior Alison Silver's 200 fly time was a season best, and Kavanaugh had the fastest 200 back time of her first year in Schenectady.

Union visits Rensselaer for its next meet on Friday, Jan. 23 at 6 p.m.
