Women's Swimming & Diving Posts Several Lifetime Bests Against RPI

TROY, N.Y. – The Union College women's swimming & diving team registered several lifetime- and season-best swims during its meet against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at Robinson Pool on Friday evening but wound up falling to the Engineers 178-49.

Senior Alison Silver, first-year Mya Schattin, junior Grace Furtado, and junior Jess Konsky wrapped up Union's off-event meet with the best podium finish of the day for the Garnet Chargers, placing second in the 200 freestyle relay (1:50.33). First-year Julia Garber led off Union's B-relay in that race and registered a season-best 50 freestyle time (27.34) as her team finished third with a time of 1:51.74 overall.

Garber also had a season-best backstroke performance while leading off the 400 medley relay. Konsky, sophomore Kathlyn Pomeroy, junior Samantha Picciotti, and first-year Maggie Reale teamed up for Union's fastest 400 medley time of the day, placing third in 4:22.45.

Including Union's three podium finishes in the relays, the Garnet Chargers had nine top-three performances against RPI. First-year Lucia Lazarus placed third in the 1,000 freestyle (12:34.98), Konsky touched the wall in 2:04.32 and third in the 200 freestyle, and Pomeroy touched the wall third in the 100 butterfly (1:07.12). Other third-place finishers for Union included junior Amelia Dino in the 100 freestyle (59.80), sophomore Maddie Stanley in the 100 backstroke (1:10.31), first-year Charlotte Auth in the 500 freestyle (6:08.48), and Silver in the 100 breaststroke (1:17.99). Silver's third-place finish represented a lifetime best for the senior.

Konsky posted a lifetime best in the 100 breast (1:21.44), Schattin secured a lifetime best in the 100 fly (1:07.17), and first-year Ali Sweeney notched her fastest 100-free time ever with a 1:02.33.


Union returns home on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 1 p.m. for Senior Day against Vassar.
