Men's Swimming & Diving Opens 2026 Slate

AMHERST, Mass. – The Union College men's swimming & diving team competed for the first time in 2026 against Amherst College, falling 228-64 against the Mammoths at Pratt Pool on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Drew Hill won Union's only event of the day, championing the 100 butterfly with a 51.96. He also placed third in the 50 freestyle (22.55) and was on the third-place 200 medley relay along with first-years Tripp Kennedy, Troy Luley, and sophomore Brayden Green. The relay, anchored by Hill, posted a time of 1:39.73.

Senior Benjamin Sperling and sophomores Myles Gronbach also competed in the 50 free with Hill, securing times of 23.59 and 24.92, respectively.

The Garnet Chargers earned eight more top-three finishes at the meet, including a pair of runner-up performances from junior Cole Pierson off both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. Sophomore Finn Weafer also competed in the 3-meter and placed fourth with 138.95 points.

Luley secured Union's final second-place finish, touching the wall in 58.63 during the 100 backstroke.

Among third-place finishers, Luley secured a podium spot in the 200 breaststroke (2:07.87), Kennedy posted a 1:45.42 in the 200 freestyle, senior Josh Hiller went 59.98 in the 100 backstroke, and first-year Lucas Miller went 2:04.27 in the 200 butterfly.

Kennedy, Sperling, junior Gavin Baltes, and Miller also teamed up for a third-place effort in the 200 freestyle relay (1:32.88).

Baltes had the top Garnet Charger performance in the 1,000 freestyle (10:44.85), 100 freestyle (50.68), and 500 freestyle (5:15.68). Kennedy paced his teammates with a fourth-place finish in the 200 backstroke (2:05.42), and Luley had the best 200 individual medley time of any Union swimmer, finishing in 2:05.31.

The Garnet Chargers visit Hartwick College on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 1 p.m. for a trimeet against the Hawks and Springfield College.
