Women's Swimming & Diving Places Sixth at Liberty League Championship

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Union College women's swimming & diving team earned a sixth-place finish Saturday night at the 2026 Liberty League Swimming & Diving Championships, hosted by Ithaca College at Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium, as the Garnet Chargers totaled 539 points and appeared in 35 finals swims.

Union wrapped up the four-day championship meet with 10 swimmers in finals, led by junior Chloe Matthews in the 100 freestyle. She became the first women's swimmer under Union College head men's and women's swimming & diving coach Molly Chamberlin's guidance to get under 54 seconds in the event. The Kennebunk, Maine native touched the wall in 53.93 during prelims, recording a lifetime-best and the 10th-fastest time in program history. She finished 11th in the event overall.

Five Garnet Chargers hit the water for the 200 backstroke with junior Jess Konsky (2:12.98) and junior Sarah Ramirez (2:21.25) securing lifetime-bests. Konsky earned her PR in the B-final, placing 14th. Junior Amelia Dino finished 17th, junior Grace Furtado placed 22nd, first-year Charlotte Auth was 23rd, and Ramirez placed 24th after getting her lifetime-best in prelims. 

First-year Ali Sweeney represented one of two B-finalists for Union in the 200 breaststroke and three finalists overall. She posted two lifetime-bests, eventually going 2:33.56 in the evening session and placing 10th. Sophomore Kathryn Pomeroy placed 14th, and first-year Maddie Stanley was 22nd. 

First-year Cate Kavanaugh was the only Garnet Charger in the 1,650 freestyle, finishing 17th and earning a lifetime-best (19:45.63) in the mile. 

First-year Julia Garber, Konsky, Matthews, and first-year Maggie Reale wrapped up Union's exciting 2026 championship meet with a sixth-place ranking in the 400 freestyle relay.

Union saw five swimmers post lifetime-bests on Saturday, and Union secured 26 PRs overall between prelims and finals, not to mention some more in time trials including Matthews' program record in the 100 individual medley on Friday.
