SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Union College men's hockey head coach
Josh Hauge revealed his player-leadership group for the 2026-27 season on Thursday, announcing junior
Lucas Buzziol as the captain and junior
Riley Brueck, and seniors
Tyler Dunbar and
Carter Rose as alternate captains.
"Lucas Buzziol's journey is a great example of what you want in a Union Hockey player," Hauge said. "To see him grow from a first-year player into a captain as a junior speaks volumes about his character, work ethic, and leadership. He has earned the respect of his teammates and coaches, and we're incredibly proud of the person and player he has become. We're excited to see him lead our team this season."
Buzziol, from Mississauga, Ontario, is the first junior to be named captain since Coach Hauge took over ahead of the 2022-23 season. As a sophomore last season, he scored 14 goals with 13 assists and earned the team's "Unsung Hero" award at the conclusion of the year. He has also been on the ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team twice, and has 41 career points in 67 games.
Buzziol's classmate, Brueck, was named an alternate captain following a 17-point campaign in 2025-26. Rose and Dunbar both earned assistant-captain honors after transferring into Union before the 2025-26 season and making an impact along the blue line. They both played all 37 games for Union last season, and Rose was named an AHCA All-American Scholar and to the ECAC Hockey Commissioner's List, while Dunbar was an AHCA All-America East Second-Team honoree. Dunbar also earned the team's Coaches Award in 2025-26 as well as the William A. Pike '60 Award.
On Thursday, Hauge also introduced two new members of his staff. Bailey Krawczyk will serve as an assistant coach and director of hockey operations. Mike Bergin joins the squad in a volunteer capacity as the director of player development.
Buzziol, Brueck, Rose, and Dunbar will don their new "C" and "A" patches on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. as Union plays host to Alaska Fairbanks.
