Dunbar Named to ECAC Hockey Preseason All-League Team

DANBURY, Conn. – Senior Tyler Dunbar earned a spot on the ECAC Hockey Preseason All-League team, the conference announced Wednesday.

Dunbar is coming off a 33-point campaign, leading to a spot on the AHCA All-America East Second Team in 2025-26. He registered the fifth most points among defensemen in the country, and he was the first Union defender to record double-digit goals in a season (12), resetting the program's defenseman single-season goal record. The record was previously a five-way tie at nine, held by Shayne Gostisbehere '15, Jeff Taylor '17, Nick DeSimone '18, Brendan Milnamow '09, and Reid Simonton '96.

The 6-1 defender from Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. was named as a finalist for the ECAC Hockey Player of the Year award last season, an All-ECAC Hockey First Team honoree, a four-time ECAC Hockey Defender of the Week, and the conference's Defender of the Month in December 2025. Dunbar scored at least one point in 21 of Union's 36 games as a junior, had a pair of multi-goal games, collected eight multi-point games, and led his team with 56 blocked shots.

Dunbar is the third Union player to garner preseason recognition from the conference in as many seasons. His former teammate Brandon Buhr '26 earned preseason All-ECAC honors ahead of the 2025-26 season, and John Prokop '26 garnered the same honor ahead of his junior year in 2024. Both Buhr and Prokop went on to sign with the Toronto Maple Leafs following those respective seasons.

Union opens its 2026-27 campaign with a familiar foe on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 4 p.m. against Army West Point on the road. Union will play inside M&T Bank Center for its fans before then, hosting Colgate for an exhibition on Friday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. Union's first regular-season home game takes place on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. against Alaska Fairbanks.
