#20 Men’s Hockey Red Hot Headed to Postseason After 3-0 Win

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore Cameron Korpi became the first Union College men's hockey goaltender to post four shutouts in a season since Colin Stevens '15 (six) and only the fifth netminder to do it in program history as the Garnet Chargers defeated Brown University 3-0 on Friday night at Meehan Auditorium.

Korpi's 20 saves paired with goals from junior Jacob Jeannette, sophomore Ben Muthersbaugh, and sophomore Riley Brueck secured Union's 21st win to close out the 2025-26 regular season, marking the team's most victories since 2017-18. In his four seasons as Union's head coach, Josh Hauge has increased his single-season win total each year after winning 14 in his debut season in 2022-23.

#20 Union (21-10-3, 11-9-2 ECAC Hockey) finished with 36 points in the ECAC Hockey standings after shutting out Brown (5-23-2, 4-16-2 ECAC Hockey) for the second time this season. Princeton University finished with 37 points, earning the fourth and final first-round bye in the ECAC Hockey Tournament. Union will host an Opening Round game on Saturday, March 7 at 5 p.m. as the #5 seed against Brown.

Jeannette got the scoring started on assists from first-year Troy Pelton and senior Ethan Benz at 4:39 in the first. Union had ample opportunities to pile it on early but went scoreless across four chances on the power play in the first period. While two of those man-up opportunities were cut short by Garnet Charger penalties, Union was still able to outshoot the Bears 17-5 in the first period. It was Union's most shots in a frame since also firing 17 on target against Cornell University on Feb. 14.

After a slightly less dominating second period in the shots department, Union eventually broke through in the middle stanza off the stick of Muthersbaugh. He wrapped up February with eight goals, and his line with seniors Brandon Buhr and Colby MacArthur produced 12 points on the weekend.

Korpi made eight saves in the third period to secure his 14th game with 20+ denials, and Brueck tacked on his third empty-net goal of the season to finalize Union's second weekend sweep in February. Union closed the regular season unbeaten (5-0-1) in its last six games, representing the team's best six-game stretch this season.

The Garnet Chargers accumulated 42 shots on goal against Brown, marking their 10th contest with 40 or more shots this season. It is the most 40+ SOG games for Union since they tallied 11 such performances in 2012-13. Union also killed off four Brown power plays, giving the top PK unit in the country its 10th game with four or more penalties killed in 2025-26.

Union finished with a winning record in conference action for the second season in a row and will host at least one playoff game for the sixth straight season. Union will host Brown in the Opening Round of the ECAC Hockey Tournament on Saturday, March 7 at 5 p.m. inside M&T Bank Center.
