SCOTIA, N.Y. – The Union College men's crew team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday on the bank of the Mohawk River after a regatta against Vassar College.
Union honored its eight seniors following the races in Josh Atkinson, Sam Flynn, Nick Meyer, Cody Morrison, Erik Roberts, Jack Savage, Ben Stern, and Khadija Amir.

Four of those seniors made up Union's 2nd Varsity 8+ boat which won its race against the Brewers. Amir served as the coxswain, guiding sophomore Daniel Vega (stroke), Meyer (7 seat), junior Reed Will (6 seat), junior Kenny Kromer (5 seat), Savage (4 seat), Morrison (3 seat), first-year Nico Sanza Stribling (2 seat), and sophomore
Ian Porter (bow) across the finish line in 6:55. Amir's boat beat out the Brewers' unit by 15 seconds.
In the 1st Varsity 8+ race, sophomore Erika Canaveral served as coxswain for Flynn (stroke), Stern (7 seat), Roberts (6 seat), junior
Stuart Livingston (5 seat), junior
Tyler Perry (4 seat), junior
Wolfgang Bodge (3 seat), junior
Angus Hall (2 seat), and Atkinson (bow). It was a close race on the windy waters, and the Garnet Chargers finished within a boat's length of the Brewers in second place with a time of 6:09.
Union's 3rd Varsity 8+ boat, composed of first-year Nate Nguyen (stroke), first-year Samar Rokkam (7 seat), junior Ben Tohanczyn (6 seat), first-year Ben Grassi (5 seat), first-year Ben Kittelberger (4 seat), first-year Taekjin Jeong (3 seat), first-year Nicholas Livingston (2 seat), and first-year Thomas Unkles (bow), was led by sophomore Elizabeth Canaveral to a time of 7:16.
Up next, Union will compete in Saratoga Spring, N.Y. at the New York State Championships on Saturday, April 18.
