Women's Crew Celebrates Senior Day Against Vassar

SCOTIA, N.Y. – The Union College women's crew team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday on the bank of the Mohawk River with a regatta against Vassar College.

Union honored its three seniors, Nora Hillery, captain Melina McGovern, and Sadie White after two races on the windy waters.

The Brewers took both races, beginning with an 11-second victory in the 1st Varsity 8+ race. Finishing with a time of 7:29, McGovern (coxswain) led junior Sarah Hannan (stroke), junior Emma Friedman (7 seat), first-year Jordan Long (6 seat), Hillery (5 seat), White (4), junior Olivia Werkema (3 seat), junior Amy Gagliardi (2 seat), and junior Mariah Jackson (bow) to the finish line.

Sophomore Isabelle Canaveral served as the coxswain in the 2nd Varsity 8+ race. Her boat of first-year Patsy Whalen (stroke), first-year Adelaide Dieden (7 seat), first-year Mahi Mattu (6 seat), first-year Elsie Paxton (5 seat), junior Susanna Harrow (4 seat), first-year Ainsley Moore (3 seat), first-year Sandhya Padmanabhan (2 seat), and first-year Avery Sommerville (bow) finished with a time of 8:48.

Next up, Union will compete in Saratoga Spring, N.Y. at the New York State Championships on Saturday, April 18.
