TROY, N.Y. – Sophomore
Jesus Sosa and junior
Solen Bellemare were recognized for their play at the top of the lineup for the Union College men's tennis team this season by earning All-Liberty League honors for the 2025-26 season, the conference office announced on Tuesday morning.
Sosa was named to the All-Liberty League second team and Bellemare earned All-Conference honorable mention, both for singles play. The two honors mark the first time in program history that two men's players have earned All-Conference singles recognition in the same season.
Sosa earns his first career All-League singles honor and his second honor overall from the conference after picking up second-team recognition in doubles as a first-year. He ranked second on the team in singles wins in his sophomore season, posting a 13-13 overall mark and a 10-9 dual-match record playing at the top-two flights in the Union lineup. The two-time Liberty League Singles Performer of the Week finished the year with six wins in his last seven second-singles contests, including providing the decisive fourth point in 4-3 victories over #70 Hobart College and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute during the regular season as well as clinching the win in the first round of the Liberty League Tournament against #65 Rochester Institute of Technology.
Bellemare earns the first All-Conference honor of his career after making the leap into the first-singles spot as a junior. He came back from a fall term abroad to earn four wins as Union's top singles player this spring, including a comeback win at the top flight against #55 Ithaca. Seven of his first-singles losses came against All-Conference first-team selections, including five matches that went three sets.
With Sosa and Bellemare leading the way, Union finished its season ranked 57th in Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association after the most successful season in program history, winning a program-record 11 matches and earning its first conference tournament victory since 2005.
