PENNSAUKEN, N.J. – The Union College men's crew team raced as the only Division-III boat against DI and DII crews in the Men's Frosh/Novice 4+ event on Friday and Saturday at the Dad Vail Regatta, held on the Cooper River.
Sophomore Elizabeth Canaveral led first-years
Nate Nguyen (stroke),
Samar Rokkam (3 seat),
Ben Kittelberger (2 seat), and
Thomas Unkles (bow) in three races over the two-day regatta.
Union started its weekend off with a 7:10.425 in the time trial Friday morning. The Garnet Chargers finished ahead of the University of Colorado (7:10.425) and the University at Buffalo (7:31.579), and their finish in the time trial positioned them in Lane 5 of the second semifinal against Temple, Rollins (DII), Lafayette, and Buffalo.
After posting the seventh-fastest time in qualifying, Canaveral guided her crew to a fourth-place finish in the semis, once again finishing ahead of Buffalo, with a time of 7:21.270.
On Saturday, Union looked to finish ahead of Colorado and Buffalo for a second and third time this weekend, respectively. However, Buffalo was scratched ahead of the petit final for the Frosh/Novice 4+ race in the afternoon, and the Garnet Chargers raced against Colorado only. Union crossed the finish line in 07:29.01 during the petit final, 06.61 seconds behind Colorado.
The Garnet Chargers will wrap up their 2026 season on Sunday on Long Lake against St. Lawrence.
