POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Led by a record-setting performance from first-year Brody Richardson, the Union College men's cross country team took third place at Vassar College's Ron Stonitsch Invitational on Saturday morning at Vassar Farm.
 
The Garnet Chargers finished the morning with 91 points, behind only USTFCCCA #3 New York University (31 points) and host Vassar (44 points) in the top-two spots.
 
Richardson finished fourth out of 84 runners on Saturday with a time of 19:23.2, which marks the third-fastest 6K time in program history and the fastest-ever time by a Union first-year. The rookie led the pack after the opening 600 meters before settling into the third spot at the mile and 4K checkpoints. After a drop to seventh with 1000 meters to go, he passed three runners over the final 1K to earn a fourth-place result.
 
Senior Ben Pistiner and sophomore Cole Lewek finished in 25th and 26th place, respectively, following each other to finishes of 20:43.9 and 20:48.1. Rounding out the scoring quintet for Union were brothers Alex Bonnette and Will Bonnette, with the first-year placing 34th in 21:07.5 and the senior taking 36th in 21:14.4.

Union will take a break from competition next week before returning to the course on September 26 at the RPI Harvest Classic at Saratoga State Park.
