Dutchmen Sweep Hawks, 10-3 and 4-2

ONEONTA, N.Y.Union used a five-run first inning and a 14-hit attack to defeat Hartwick, 10-3, in the first game of a non-league doubleheader then used the strong pitching of Eric Giovannone and Frank Arcuri to win the nitecap, 4-2. The twin win brings the Dutchmen to within one victory of the .500 mark at 14-15.

Cliff Eisenhut led the Dutchmen in the opener as he had three hits, including a double, while Adam Chadwick, Dan Mehleisen, Mike Flanagan and Ben Brown all contributed a pair of hits. Flanagan, who also had a double, contributed two of Union's four stolen bases. Mehleisen and Eisenhut had the others.

Union opened the game by loading the bases on a base hit, a hit batter and a walk. Mehleisen had the only run-scoring hit, a single, while three Hawk errors contributed to the Garnet's other three tallies.

Cory Spicer went the distance for the Dutchmen, giving up four hits and one earned run. He did not strike out or walk a batter while picking up his second win in four decisions.

Giovannone tossed a solid six innings and Arcuri picked up his first save of the year in the second game. Giovannone, who earned his fourth win, gave up three hits, struck out five and walked two. Eisenhut, Mehleisen, Kyle Murphy and Jeff Viamari all plated a runner. Chadwick contributed a pair of doubles and a run scored.
