HAMILTON, NY— Jesse Winchester registered a goal and three assists as the Colgate Raiders held on for a 5-2 win over visiting Union in ECAC Hockey League action at Starr Rink Friday night. The Dutchmen snapped a 205:11 scoreless streak against the Raiders with a pair of goals in the third period.
Union (5-4-2, 1-2-0 ECACHL) put two on the board in the third period,
as Olivier Bouchard (Quebec City, QUE) registered his first Friday-night point of the season with a shot through a mass of defenders in front of the net.
Brendan Milnamow (Wilton, CT) snapped a pass from
Mike Schreiber (Sherwood Park, ALB) at the point, finding Bouchard in the slot.
Mario Valery-Trabucco (Montreal, QUE) cut Colgate's lead to 5-2 and picked up his fifth goal of the season on the power play when he tipped in a shot from the point from Schreiber
. T.J. Fox (Oswego, NY) passed over to Schreiber who was settled at the right point. Schreiber's shot careened left, finding Trabucco set up at the doorstep. The assist extends Fox's point streak to seven games.
Freshman David McIntyre put Colgate (6-8-2, 2-4-1 ECACHL) on the board midway through the first period as he collected a pass from Dustin Gillanders along the boards, carried the puck into the zone, made a move around a Union defender and sent his low shot in on the far side.
Colgate added three more goals in the second period, the first two coming from Burton on the power play. He collected a pass from Winchester as he broke into the right side of the zone, then sent a shot past
Justin Mrazek's (Regina, SASK) glove at 2:39 of the period. Burton connected with Winchester again six minutes later, carried the puck right to the doorstep and lifted the puck past reliever
Rich Sillery (Hyattsville, MD).
Winchester connected with defenseman David Sloane midway through the period to give the Raiders a 5-0 lead. Winchester won the draw in the Union zone, and dropped the puck back to Sloane whose shot from the point sailed past Sillery.
Mrazek made 14 saves in 22:39, and Sillery finished the game with 15 saves. Mark Dekanich stopped 25 shots as the Dutchmen out-shot their hosts 14 to seven in the final period.
Union is back in action tomorrow at Lynah Rink as the Dutchmen take on No. 13 Cornell at 7 p.m.
