SCHENECTADY, NY –. The Dutchwomen scored first and then tied the game early in the second period, but three unanswered goals by the Brown women's ice hockey team lifted the Bears past Union College, 5-2, in ECAC Hockey League action at Messa Rink Sunday afternoon. Union drops to 4-14-0 and 0-10-0 in league play, while the Bears picked up their first league win and stand at 3-11-2 overall and 1-9-1 in the ECACHL.

Kelly Lannan (Winchester, MA) picked up her fourth goal of the year to open the scoring just over five minutes into the opening period.
Molly Garrett (Ridgely, MD) took a slap shot from the blue line that was blocked in front of the net.
Meagan O'Connor (Portsmouth, RI) knocked the puck out to Lannan at the left circle. Lannan's wrister beat Brown goaltender O'Hara Shipe on her stick side.
Brown took the lead on a pair of quick goals late in the first stanza, the first coming at 14:49 when Rylee Olewinski picked up a rebound in front of the net and sent her shot past Union netminder Amanda Hanson (Brainerd, MN) low on the stick side. Amanda Asay found a loose puck just inside the zone and netted a wrist shot past Hanson's glove to give the Bears a 2-1 edge headed into the first intermission.
The Dutchwomen struck early in the middle frame before the Bears extended their lead to 4-2 with a pair of goals 20 seconds apart.

Jackie Koetteritz (Breckenridge, CO) just inside in the Brown zone. Koetteritz passed to
Suzy Pocock (Sterling Heights, MI), who carried the puck down to the bottom of the right circle and fired a wrist shot high past Shipe's stick side.
Brown's Hayley Moore gave the Bears the lead at 3-2 when she brought the puck out of the corner and roofed the puck past Hanson's blocker at the 2:25 mark before Kathryn Moos put Brown up two with a high shot past Hansons' glove side on a two-on-one with Sasha van Muyen. Brown's Olewinski added an insurance goal midway through the third period.
Hanson made 50 saves in net, including 23 in the opening period; her record falls to 0-2-0 on the season. Shipe picked up her first win of the season with 18 saves.
The Dutchwomen held Brown scoreless in nine power-play attempts, but the Bears held a 38-29 advantage in faceoffs.
Union is back in action next weekend at Messa Rink when the Dutchwomen host Quinnipiac and Princeton in 2 p.m. games on Saturday and Sunday.
