Union swimming & diving teams return to the pool vs. Amherst

Maria Prendergast won the 50 free and helped lead a Union victory in the 200 free relay but the Union women's swimming & diving team lost to Amherst, 157-82 at the Alumni Gym Pool Saturday. 

The Dutchmen lost to Amherst, 151-70. It was the first action for both Union teams since December 9.

Prendergast took first in the 50 with a time of 25.71. She was on the third leg of the victorious 200 free relay team that came in at 1:42.01. She was joined on the relay by Priscilla Wright, Erica Fugger and Kaleigh Ahern. Union's 200 medley relay team of Lexi Bascom, Ahern, Andrea Marois and Wright were second at 1:54.62, and Union was second in the 400 free relay with Fugger, Prendergast, Diana Fletcher and Wright at 3:49.95.

Ahern was second in the 100 individual medley, clocking at 1:01.28. Meredith Nearpass was second in the one meter dive with a score of 215.39, and Marois was second in the 100 butterfly at 1:00.93. Fletcher took second in the 100 free at 56.80. Ahern was second in the 100 breaststroke at 1:09.54.

On the men's side, Brian Scarlett had a strong day for the Dutchmen. He was the lead on the 200 medley relay that took second at 1:40.03, joined by Alex Boyd, Steven Schapp and Todd Herman.  Scarlett was first also for the second place team in the 400 free relay, as he, Billy Breitweiser, Schapp and Herman touched at 3:23.28. In the 200 free relay, Scarlett along with Herman, Breitweiser and Alex Connell were second at 1:31.34. 

Individually, Schapp was second in the 200 free at 1:49.02, and Lucas Tiziani was second in the 100 fly at 55.48 while Schapp was third in that event at 55.85. Boyd was third in the 100 breatstroke at 1:02.58.

The Union teams return to action on Sat., January 9 at Hartwick.
