SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Coming off a thrilling 3-0 win over Brown last Saturday to earn it's first ECAC Hockey win since 2004, the Union College women's ice hockey team looks to build off the win as it concludes it's four-game road trip at No. 6 Harvard and Dartmouth this weekend.
Union (5-18-1, 1-10-1 ECACH) will face Harvard (9-4-4, 7-4-2 ECACH) on Friday at 7 p.m. and Dartmouth (6-10-2, 4-8-1 ECACH) on Saturday at 4 p.m. Fans can follow the Dutchwomen on the road through live stats or live video through the Internet at gocrimson.com and dartmouthsports.com
It was a terrific afternoon for the Dutchwomen last Saturday. Along with the win, freshman goaltender Alana Marcinko stopped 47 saves to not only break her career game-high record, but to preserve her third shutout, becoming the first player to record that many shutouts at the Division I level.
Marcinko was not the only Dutchwomen to find success. Junior defenseman Perri Maduri scored her first career goal, which became the game-winner. Sophomore forward Lauren Hoffman, the team's leader in assists (six) and points (eight), picked up her first assist since Oct. 31. Sophomore forward Émilie Arseneaultscored on an empty net to record her team-high fifth goal this season.
Maduri and junior forward Marissa Gentile have been on a role in the past three games. Maduri has recorded a goal and an assist, while Gentile has posted two assists during that span. In addition, sophomore forward Molly Kate Devin has scored one goal and record one assist in the last four games.
Scouting Harvard
Ranked sixth by USCHO.com, Harvard is coming off a 5-1 win over Colgate last Saturday at home. The Crimson currently sit in fifth place in the ECAC Hockey standings with 16 points.
Junior forward Kate Buesser leads the Crimson in points (21). She has scored seven goals and posted 14 assists. Freshman Jillian Dempsey has been on the rise, scoring seven goals and recording nine assists this season.
Senior Christina Kessler made history last Saturday against Colgate. The 5-1 win made her the program's all-time winningest goaltender (64), passing former goaltender and current Union assistant coach Ali Boe.
This season, Kessler has played 15 games and carries a 1.39 goals-against average (fourth best in the nation) and a .944 save percentage (third best in the nation). Both statistics are the best in ECAC Hockey.
Harvard's 88.9 penalty kill percentage is second best in ECAC Hockey.
Scouting Dartmouth
Dartmouth has been winless in it's last six games, four of them are against ECAC Hockey opponents. Prior to facing the Dutchwomen on Saturday, the Big Green will face Rensselaer on Friday at 7 p.m. Senior forward Sarah Parsons leads the Big Green in goals (Best in ECAC Hockey), points and assists (14-11-25).
Junior forward Amanda Trunzo is second on the team (11-10-21).
The Big Green offense is the best in ECAC Hockey when it comes to scoring, averaging 2.83 goals per game. In addition, Dartmouth is second best in the league when on the power play (19.8 percent).
Senior Mariel Lacina has played a majority of the season between the pipes. Having played 15 games, Lacina carries a 2.68 goals against average and a .899 save percentage. Freshman Whitney Woodcox has played five games and has a 3.69 GAA and a .853 save percentage.
