Men's ice hockey to debut retro jerseys tonight

SCHENECTADY, NY - When the men's ice hockey team takes the ice tonight, it will mark the debut of a retro third jersey inspired by those worn by the 1940-41 Dutchmen.

"For a while we've wanted to do a third jersey," said head coach Nate Leaman. "It's about our 1940-41 team, a retro jersey showing respect for that team. We have pictures all over the rink from that year, and it was the first time they put "Union" on their hockey sweaters. We wanted to do a throwback recognizing that."

The new retro jersey is black, with white stripes on the sleeves and arms. The collar is white and ribbed to imitate the sweaters worn with the original design. A patch on the upper right side commemorates the 70th anniversary of Union adding lettering to its sweaters for the first time. The font on the front and back of the jersey is garnet with a white outline.

Union will wear their third jerseys for select games this season, starting with tonight's "Blackout" game against RPI.
