HAMILTON, N.Y. – After playing 32 games in the span of five months, the Union College women's ice hockey team finishes the 2009-10 season this weekend on the road, facing Colgate on Friday at 7 p.m. and No. 10 Cornell on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Sophomore forward Molly Kate Devin (3g-5a-8p) notched her fifth assist last Saturday's 2-1 loss to No. 5 Harvard to join junior forward Marissa Gentile (2g-6a-8p) and sophomore forward Lauren Hoffman (2g-6a-8p) in a three-way tie for most points scored this season.
Sophomore goaltender Kate Gallagher made a strong performance against the Crimson. Gallagher, who came in at the start of the third period against Dartmouth the night before, combined 41 saves and allowed two goals during the weekend. Since Feb. 5, Gallagher's goals-against average went from 3.42 to 3.13 and her save percentage went from .895 to .904.
Scouting Colgate
The Raiders are coming off a 4-3 win over Brown last Saturday in Providence, R.I. In addition, they have won three of their last five games.
Senior forward Katie Stewart (22g-15a-37p) leads the team in all three categories. She is currently leading ECAC Hockey for goals scored and second in points this season. While Stewart, senior forward Evan Minnick (9g-13a-22p) and freshman forward Brittany Phillips (11g-9a-20p) have 20 or more points this season, 10 Raiders have double digits in points.
Junior Lisa Plenderleith has played a majority of the season between the pipes. In 23 games, she holds a 3.30 goals-against average and a .889 save percentage.
Sophomore Kimberly Sass has played 12 games in goal this season and has a 4.24 GAA and a .864 save percentage.
Colgate can be a dangerous team in the second period. It is one of three teams (The others are Dartmouth and Rensselaer) to have scored 30 goals in during that period.
Scouting Cornell
Ranked 10th in the nation by USCHO.com, Cornell has been one of the hottest teams in the past month, having lost one in 10 games. The Big Red are currently on a three-game winning streak. Prior to facing the Dutchwomen on Saturday, Cornell will host Union's travel partner Rensselaer on Friday at 7 p.m.
Sophomore forward Catherine White (7g-23a-30p) leads the team in assists and points scored. She also leads ECAC Hockey for assists. Sophomore forward Chelsea Karpenko (13g-9a-22p) leads the Big Red in goals. Freshman defenseman Laura Fortino (9a-14a-23p) is not only in second in assists and points, but leads all freshman in all three categories. Along with White, Fortino and Karpenko, seven Big Red student-athletes have recorded double digits in points.
Sophomore Amanda Mazzotta has played all but one game in goal for Cornell. In 26 games, she carries a 1.48 goals-against average and a .924 save percentage.
Cornell is the most dangerous team when on the power-play. It's 20.9 percentage is best in ECAC Hockey and third best in the nation.
Cornell is also very successful in killing penalties. In 94 penalties given, Cornell has only allowed three power-play goals, which is the best in the nation.
