Dutchmen Pound Gators 16-7

Kemp went 5 1/3 innings for the win

WINTER HAVEN, FL
- The Union Dutchmen baseball team churned out 20 hits as they romped over the Allegheny Gators 16-7 on Thursday afternoon at Chain of Lakes Park.
 
Phil Kemp got the win and pitched 5.1 innings and gave up eights, five runs (four earned), three walks, and struck out three. Cody Portin relieved him and went 3.2 innings and gave up seven hits, two earned runs, and two strikeouts. Anthony Cassese went 4-for-6 at the plate with three doubles, two runs scored, and three RBIs. Tyler Heck was 2-for-7 with a triple, a run scored, and three RBIs. Dane Flavin was 2-for-3 with a double, one run scored and one RBI. Dan Minnes was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and one RBI.
 
Eric Hansen went 2-for-5 at the plate for the Gators with a double and two runs scored. Ben Lowmaster and Matt Stahl were both 3-for-5.
 
Allegheny got on the board in the first and went up 1-0. In the top of the second, David Peretti's single scored two runs to put Union on top 2-1. The Gators would get within one run in the bottom of the inning but that was as close as they would get. The Dutchmen scored three in the next inning when Cassesse's double scored three runs on an error by the Gator shortstop to make it 5-2 Union. Two more Union runs would come in the fourth inning to put them on top 7-2. 
 
The big damage was done in the top of the sixth when the Dutchmen scored five runs on six hits to take a 14-3 lead that they would not relinquish. 
 
Union is now 3-2 while Allegheny falls to 7-4.
 
Union concludes play in Florida with 12 pm game against Trinity.
