SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Three members of the Union College baseball team – junior
Jacob Skarlis and seniors
Caleb Miller and
Andrew Keaveney – were recognized for their excellence on the field and in the classroom by earning spots on the 2026 Academic All-District Baseball Team, selected by College Sports Communicators and announced on Tuesday.
To be nominated for CSC Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must participate in at least 90 percent or start at least 66 percent of their team's games (with pitchers needing either 17 appearances or 35.0 innings pitched), maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, and reach sophomore athletic and academic standing at the school. Every Academic All-District honoree is considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America ballot, and Keaveney and Miller both advanced to the All-America voting process.
Miller was recognized for the third straight season, Keaveney received the second CSC Academic All-District honor of his career, and Skarlis earned his first CSC All-Academic award.
Miller was named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region III first team for the second time in his career after earning first-team honors from the Liberty League for the third season in a row. He started all 37 games for Union and wrapped up his fourth year in Schenectady as the program's leader in career hits (181), runs (138), RBIs (122), total bases (302), and at-bats (527), reaching all five marks in 2026 as he slashed .368/.446/.573. The Rome, N.Y. native produced top-10 offensive numbers in the Liberty League while catching 88.4% (275/311) of Union's innings defensively and spending the other 36 innings in the outfield. Behind the plate, he threw out a league-leading 20 would-be base stealers. Union's premier catcher had the ninth-highest OBP (.484), ninth-highest OPS (1.060), ninth-most runs scored (39), sixth-most hits (53), ninth-most doubles (13), fifth-most HBP (14), and sixth-most stolen bases (19) in the league. The program's all-time hits leader finished his senior season on a 12-game hitting streak, had 15 multi-hit games, six three-hit games, and a pair of four-hit performances. On top of his career records, Miller posted the 10th-most hits in a single season in program history (53), the 10th-most runs (39), the sixth-most doubles (13), and stole the 10th-most bases (19).
Keaveney earned All-Liberty League third-team honors after proving to be one of the best on-base hitters in the conference while splitting his time almost evenly between first base, right field, and designated hitter. In 36 games, he reached base at a .513 clip (the fourth-best in the conference) and was one of four Liberty League hitters to bat over .400, hitting .411. Keaveney also produced 23 runs, 29 RBIs, and a .519 slugging percentage for a career-best 1.032 OPS. He recorded 16 multi-hit games and had two four-hit performances at the dish. While boasting a .400 average, he also walked 26 times (sixth-most in the Liberty League), giving him the fourth-most walks in a single season in program history. The managerial economics major also reached base safely in 32 of 36 games.
Skarlis emerged as one of Union's top options on the mound throughout his junior season. The Rensselaer, N.Y. righty started nine games and entered one more game in relief. He posted a 3-5 record while displaying excellent control, only walking nine batters in 52 1/3 innings pitched (tied for the second-least in Liberty League). Skarlis pitched eight innings in a 10-3 win over Rensselaer, striking out five and only allowing two earned runs. He also earned a win in his first outing of the season with four Ks and no runs against Stockton (3/6). That start began a stretch where he did not allow a run over his first nine innings pitched of his junior season.
With the three baseball honorees this year, Union student-athletes have now earned 314 Academic All-District honors since 2001.
