Clarkson Takes Two From Dutchmen

Host Clarkson hit a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the 12th  to defeat the Union baseball team 6-2 in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
 
Dane O'Neil went 7 1/3 innings and gave up seven hits, two earned runs, walked one and struck out six. Andrew Beaule came in relief and went 2/3 inning. Quinn Rhoda pitched three innings and gave up one earned run and struck out one. Jeremy LeFebvre took the loss and went 1/3 inning and gave up two hits, three earned runs and one walk.
 
Anthony Cassese hit his and the team's first homerun of the season. He was 1-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Dylan Katz-Wicks was 2-for-6 and Tyler Heck was 2-for-5. David Peretti was 1-for-4 with a run scored.
 
The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when Clarkson scored to go up 1-0. Union would tie it up in the sixth . After Dom Calistro struck out to lead off, Peretti reached on an error and advanced to second. Nick Ranalli grounded out to third which moved Perreti to third who then scored on a wild pitch. After singles by Joe Bradlee and Katz-Wicks, Heck walked to load the bases. The Dutchmen were prevented from going up when Dane Flavin lined out to end the inning.
 
Union would take the lead in the seventh on Cassese's homer to right field. The bases were again loaded with only one out but Bradlee flied out to left and Katz-Wicks lined to shortstop. Clarkson led off the bottom of the inning with a solo homer to tie the game at 2-2. 
 
The game went into extra innings and Union had a chance to take the lead in the 10th. After Bradlee grounded out to lead off, Katz-Wicks singled and then Heck singled to put runners on first and second. Flavin flied out to left and then the bases were loaded when Matt Barretto reached on an error. A fielder's choice ended the inning when Heck was out at third base.
 
Clarkson won the game in the 12th on David Kinney's grand slam.
 
Clarkson won the second game 8-0. Seth Roberts took the loss for the Dutchmen and went 1.1 innings and gave up four hits, five earned runs, and two walks. Brendan McLaughlin came in relief and pitched 4.2 innings and gave up five hits, three earned runs, two walks and struck out three. At the plate, Heck was 2-for-2 with a double.
 
Alex Giovannone went the distance for the Golden Knights and gave up six hits, one walk and struck out five.
 
The two teams square off again tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 12 pm.
