ALLSTON, MA –
Junior forward Matt Hatch had two goals and sophomore forward Daniel Ciampini had a goal and two assists to lead No. 7/8 Union men's hockey (6-1-1, 3-0-0 ECAC Hockey) to a 6-2 win over Harvard (2-2-0, 1-2-0 ECAC Hockey) in front of 2,286 fans at Bright Hockey Center.
Senior forward Wayne Simpson extended his goal-scoring streak to six games with a goal in the third period, and sophomore defenseman Charlie Vasaturo and senior defenseman Greg Coburn each added first period goals for the Dutchmen, who extended their unbeaten streak to seven games (6-0-1).

Junior goaltender Troy Grosenick (nine saves) earned the win in net, but was forced out of the game with a lower body injury in the second period. Sophomore goaltender Colin Stevens (14 saves) filled in the rest of the way.

Union got off to a quick start, as Vasaturo scored his first collegiate goal in the opening minute of the contest. Vasaturo corralled a pass from junior forward Daniel Carr and fired a long wrist shot through traffic past Harvard goaltender Raphael Girard (25 saves) at :41 to give Union a 1-0 lead.

The Dutchmen would make it 2-0 on their first power play opportunity of the game. With Harvard's Luke Greiner in the penalty box for hooking, senior defenseman Greg Coburn put in his own rebound on a backdoor pass from sophomore forward Daniel Ciampini, giving Union a two-goal lead at 3:00. Union finished the night 1-for-4 on the man advantage.

Harvard cut into Union's lead in the opening minutes of the second period, capitalizing on a Dutchman turnover in the neutral zone. Greiner fed Jimmy Vesey, who cut to the middle of the ice and fired over the shoulder of Grosenick at 1:32 to make it 2-1.

In the next minute of play, Harvard's Tommy O'Regen crashed into Grosenick, taking out his legs as he played a puck at the side of the net at 2:24. Grosenick was helped off the ice and was replaced by Stevens.

The Dutchmen responded with a quick goal after the injury to regain a two-goal lead. Senior defenseman Greg Coburn fired a shot from the left point that deflected off the leg off junior forward Matt Hatch and past Girard at 5:58 to give Union a 3-1 lead.

Union would make it 4-1 late in the second period, as senior forward Kyle Bodie gained possession of the puck on a failed clear by Harvard and fed sophomore forward Daniel Ciampini cutting into the zone. Ciampini fired a slapshot over the left shoulder of Girard at 16:40 to give the Dutchmen a three-goal lead.

Simpson scored his team-leading sixth goal of the year at 10:32 of the third period, poking in backhander on a rebound off a shot by Ciampini.

Just over a minute later, Hatch scored his second of the game, following up a shot off the glass from sophomore forward Max Novak and beating Harvard goaltender Peter Traber (seven saves) who had replaced Girard in net after Simpson's goal.

Union will take on Dartmouth (4-0-1, 3-0-0 ECAC Hockey) tomorrow night at Thompson Arena in a game that begins at 7:00 p.m.
