SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College baseball team defeated Vassar College 6-1 and 9-5 on Saturday at College Park. After the two Liberty League contests, the Dutchmen move to 12-11 overall with a 7-7 mark in conference play. The Brewers sit at 8-15 and 6-8.
Matt Barretto led the Dutchmen, hitting a grand slam in the bottom of the second inning in game two. The junior scored two runs and earned four RBIs. Barretto enabled junior

Joe Bradlee to record runs, extending Union's lead to 7-0.
Despite a run from the Brewers in the top of the third, the Dutchmen continued their offensive attack a few innings later with sophomore
Sam Caruso scoring after an infield error. Cohen then singled to center field, allowing Bradlee to advance two bases to score Union's ninth run.
Vassar picked up their momentum at the top of the ninth, scoring three runs off of a double from Sean Morash. Dave Robins, Brett Zaziski and Michael Perrone all tallied runs for the Brewers.
However, freshman
Matt McGavick was able to hold off Kyle Casey to maintain Union's 9-5 lead.
Phil Kemp earned the win for the Dutchmen, allowing seven hits and one earned run in seven innings. The junior struck out seven while walking two.
Junior
Tyler Heck, Caruso and Cohen each recorded a run and an RBI, while sophomore
Vincent Esposito earned an RBI. Bradlee tallied two runs, while Moore and junior
Dylan Katz-Wicks scored, as well.
Dane O'Neil earned the win in Union's first match, playing all seven innings and allowing only five hits and one earned run. The sophomore struck out five while walking one.
Vassar jumped out to an early lead with Liam Lee scoring in the first inning after Zasiski grounded out to Katz-Wicks. Union, however, answered right back. Sophomore
David Peretti singled to the Perrone, bringing Katz-Wicks home in the bottom of the first. Caruso then singled past pitcher Scott Allen, allowing Heck to score and take a 2-1 lead.
The Dutchmen scored two more runs in the third and fourth innings before sealing the win in the bottom of the sixth. After a sacrifice bunt from Bradlee, Peretti advanced to third base with Caruso moving to second. Cohen then stepped up to the plate and singled through the left side to bring home the sophomores. The contest ended at 6-1 in favor of Union.
Peretti led the squad with two RBIs and a run, while Cohen earned two RBIs. Barretto also tallied an RBI, while Caruso recorded a run and an RBI. Heck scored twice and Katz-Wicks and Moore each had a run, as well.
The Dutchmen travel to Vassar tomorrow, April 15
th, for another Liberty League doubleheader at noon.
