Men's swimming & diving topples Hamilton 161-139

CLINTON, N.Y. –
The Dutchmen swimming & diving squad came away with a dual meet win against Hamilton at Bristol Pool Saturday afternoon.

The Dutchmen opened up the meet with a first place finish in the 400-yard medley relay. The quartet of Andrew Welch, Zack Wahl, David Sorensen and Matthew Hellauer earned a time of 3:40.95.

Hellauer, the three-time Liberty League Rookie of the Week took the top place in the 1,000-yard freestyle coming in at 10:01.05. Zach Wahl added on another top finish for the Dutchmen in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking in at 1:46.34. In the 200-yard butterfly, brother Matt Wahl eclipsed younger brother Zack with times 2:04.06 and 2:04.63 respectively. Matt Wahl also was able to take second in the 100-yard freestyle with a 49.40 time.

Liberty League Swimmer of the Week Welch took second in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:57.93. He also was able to earn first in the 100-yard backstroke with a 53.34 time. David Sorensen earned a top finish for Union in the 200-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 2:19.55. In addition, Sorensen placed first in the 100-yard breast with a 1:02.50 pace. Adam Herzog added on the top finishes for the Dutchmen in the 500-yard free, coming in with a time of 4:53.11.

In the 100-yard butterfly, the Dutchmen were able to take the top three spots. Matt Wahl paced the trio with a 53.17 time in which he was followed by Welch (54.23) and Billy Phillips (54.28).

Benjamin Nadareski tallied on a second place finish in the 50-yard freestyle dash with a time of 22.66 en route to the win.

On the boards, Jeremy Sagaille earned an NCAA qualifying score and paced the group in the 1mtr with a mark of 279.08. He also tallied a second place finish in the 3mtr with a 264.75 time.

In the final event, Matt Wahl, Herzog, Nadareski and Phillips came away with a runner-up finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a mark of 3:21.14.

Union will host their final dual meet of the season at Alumni Gymnasium Pool against Ithaca College on Saturday, February 2 beginning at 2 p.m.
