Dimmitt wins two diving events in loss to Amherst

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women's swimming and diving team had three event wins but fell to Amherst College 172-105 in their first regular meet of the season.

Sophomore Sarah Dimmitt swept the diving events after earning first place finishes in the one and three meter diving. Junior Anne Trojanowski earned 9 points for the Dutchwomen with a win in the 500 yard freestyle. Freshman Christina Belforti earned her first collegiate win in the 200 backstroke.

The Dutchwomen also added six second place finishes. Belforti also added eight points to the Dutchwomen total after two second place finishes in the 100 yard backstroke and 100 yard butterfly. Senior Rachel Clegg tallied second place finishes in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke. Sophomore Brittany Kenny pulled down two second place finishes in the 200 yard butterfly and 200 yard IM.

Trojanowski also added three points for the Dutchwomen in the 1000 yard freestyle. Sophomore Brittany Kenny finished third in the 200 yard freestyle. Freshman Alexis Wojtowicz finished third in her first career 50 yard freestyle event. Senior Madeline Ashworth also finished third in the 500 yard freestyle.

The Dutchwomen return to action next weekend when they travel to Williamstown to take on Williams College at 12 p.m.
