Game Highlights

SCHENECTADY, NY –
Junior forward Kevin Sullivan scored twice, junior forward Daniel Carr had two assists to reach 100 career points, and sophomore goaltender Colin Stevens made 24 stops for his third shutout of the season as Union (17-12-5, 10-8-4 ECAC Hockey) defeated Clarkson (9-18-7, 8-11-3 ECAC Hockey), 4-0, on Senior Night in front of 2,371 fans at Messa Rink.

Senior forward Wayne Simpson and junior forward Josh Jooris also had goals for the Dutchmen, who clinched the No. 4 seed and a first round bye in the ECAC Hockey Tournament.

Union outshot Clarkson 46-24 for the night and went 2-for-4 on the man advantage, while holding Clarkson scoreless on two power play chances.

Stevens was tested early by Clarkson, which held a wide margin in shots in the opening 10 minutes of the first period. He made a kick save on a Ben Sexton's shot that deflected off a Union player in front of the net at 3:00, and a good stop on Jarrett Burton in front at the 10:30 mark to keep the game scoreless.

Simpson gave Union the lead late in the period on Union's first power play of the night with Nik Pokulok in the penalty box for interference at 16:41. Sophomore defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere fired a shot from the point that Simpson deflected between the pads of Clarkson goaltender Greg Lewis (42 saves) at 17:20 to put Union up 1-0 after one period of play.

Early in the second period, Sullivan notched his first goal of the game, putting in his own rebound at 5:27 to give the Dutchmen a two-goal advantage.

Stevens made an acrobatic save on Clarkson's T.J. Moor later in the period after kicking out a Jarrett Burton shot from the slot. The rebound slid past the goal mouth to Moor and Stevens extended his stick to make a paddle save on the right post at 15:30 of the second period.

Union outshot Clarkson 21-6 in the second period, but still only held a two goal advantage heading into the final period of play.

The Dutchmen notched their second power play goal of the night early in the third period, with Todd Christian in the box for boarding at 5:41. Sullivan recorded his second goal of the night, and his second career two goal game, pouncing on a rebound of a hard shot by Carr at 6:24 of the third period.

Union sealed the win late in the third when Jooris skated in on a 2-on-2 and beat Lewis over the shoulder from the circle at 17:20. Carr picked up an assist on the play to give him 100 career points (52 goals, 48 assists). He is the 10th player in the Division I era and the 23rd player in program history to notch 100 points at Union.

After the game, Union honored it's five seniors (Kyle Bodie, Greg Coburn, Ryan Forgaard, Wayne Simpson and Shawn Stuart) and senior manager Phil Cohn in an on-ice ceremony.

Union will host the highest remaining seed from first round in an ECAC Quarterfinal best-of-three series beginning with a 7:00 p.m. contest on Friday, March 15.
