Dutchmen topple Hamilton on senior day

RESULTS

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College men's swimming and diving team claimed 14 of 16 events against Hamilton on the Dutchmen's senior day on Saturday afternoon in the Alumni Gym Pool.

Senior Adam Herzog led the Dutchmen by being a part of  four event victories. He claimed individual event victories in the 100 yard (48.55), 200 yard (1:46.32) and 500 yard freestyle (4:51.46) events. He was also part of the 200 yard freestyle relay team of fellow seniors Billy Phillips and Zack Wahl and sophomore Benjamin Nadareski that claimed first place with a time of 1:27.28.

The other relay team of Nadareski, Phillips, junior Andrew Welch and freshman John Enquist also took home first place in the 200 yard medley with a time of 1:35.63.

Other individual event victors included sophomore Matthew Hellauer (10:00.41 in the 1000 yard freestyle), Wahl (1:56.84 in the 200 yard butterfly), Enquist (1:01.97 in the 100 yard breaststroke and 2:13.54 in the 200 yard breaststroke), Nadareski (21.65 in the 50 yard freestyle), Welch (1:58.13 in the 200 yard backstroke) and Phillips (53.21 in the 100 yard butterfly).

The diving team of junior Jeremy Sagaille, and sophomores Cameron Robertson and Kian Kian Nowrouzi swept the one and three meter diving events. Sagaille claimed first place in the one meter dive with a score of 249.82 and second place in the three meter with a score of 269.78 Robertson claimed first place in the three meter dive with a score of 272.4 while placing third in the one meter dive with a score of 237.75. Nowrouzi finished second in the one meter (248.55) and third in the three meter (241.35).

Other notable individual event finishes include Welch (second place in the 100 yard backstroke), senior David Wood (second place in the 100 yard butterfly), Phillips (second place in the 50 yard freestyle), freshman Nathan Singer (second place in the 200 yard breaststroke and third place in the 100 yard breaststroke), Hellauer (second place in the 500 yard freestyle), Enquist (second place in the 500 yard freestyle and 400 yard individual medley), freshman Harrison Brown (third place in the 1000 yard freestyle), freshman Dylan Mechanic (third place in the 200 yard freestyle and 400 yard individual medley), freshman Chris Koster (third place in the 100 and 200 yard backstroke), Wahl (third place in the 100 yard freestyle).

Union said goodbye to seniors Timothy Cameron, Herzog, Phillips, Wahl and Wood in their final home meet of their collegiate careers. Each placed in their individual events in the Alumni Gym Pool. 

The Dutchmen return to action next Saturday when they travel to Ithaca for a 2 p.m. meet with the Bombers.
