Dutchwomen defeat Hamilton on senior day

RESULTS

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women's swimming and diving team claimed first place in 10 of their 16 events in their 160-134 defeat of Hamilton on senior day Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium Pool.

Senior Rachel Clegg led the way by being involved in three event victories. She took home individual wins in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:09.68) and 200 yard breaststroke (2:31.43). She also finished second in the 400 yard individual medley with a time of 4:48.37.

Clegg also led one of the two relay team victories on the afternoon. She partnered with sophomore Brittany Kenny and freshmen Christy Brown and Christina Belforti in the 200 yard medley for a time of 1:53.56. The other relay team of senior Emily Opolski, sophomore Alexis Wojtowicz, junior Anne Trojanowski and Brown took home first place in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:42.44.

Sophomore Sarah Dimmitt secured first place in both diving events. She scored a 225.75 in the one meter dive and followed that by scoring 242.92 in the three meter dive.

Other individual event victories included Trojanowksi (10:42 in the 1000 yard freestyle, 5:17.95 in the 500 yard freestyle and 2:13.97 in the 200 yard butterfly),  and Kenny (4:42.51 in the 400 yard individual medley).

Other notable finishes include Kenny (second place in the 200 and 100 yard freestyle), Belforti (second place in the 100 yard butterfly and 100 yard backstroke), Lily Suhanovsky (second place in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke), Wojtowicz (second place in the 50 yard freestyle and third place in the 100 yard butterfly), senior Madeline Ashworth (third place in the 500 and 1000 yard freestyle), Opolski (third place in the 100 yard and 200 yard backstroke) and Brown(third place in the 50 yard freestyle).

Union said goodbye to seniors Clegg, Opolski and Ashworth in their final home meet of their collegiate careers. Each placed in their individual events in the Alumni Gym Pool.

The Dutchwomen return to action next Saturday when they travel to Ithaca for a 2 p.m. meet with the Bombers.
