SCHENECTADY, NY - Senior
Andrew Welch won both the 100- and 200- yard and
John Enquist won three individual events for the second straight meet as Union lost to Ithaca 185.5-115.5 on Saturday afternoon. Before the meet, Welch along with fellow seniors
James Lew,
Ben Saperstein and
Jeremy Sagaille were honored.
In addition to his two wins in both backstroke events, Welch was part of both relay squads that took second. The 200-yard medley team of Welch, Enquist,
Brendan McClure and
Benjamin Nadareski had a time of 1:37.22 while the 400-yard freestyle relay team comprised of Welch,
Dan Steinmetz,
Matthew Hellauer and Nadareski touched the wall at 3:20.67.
Enquist claimed the top spot in the 100-yard breaststoke, 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard IM.
The Dutchmen posted five second place finishes on the swimming side with McClure (1,000-yard free, 100-yard butterfly), Nadareski (50- and 100-yard free) and Hellauer (500-yard free).
On the diving side,
Sam Hoyt placed second in both diving events with scores of 281.41 (3-meter) and 299.84 (1-meter). Sagaille came in second in the 3-meter with a score of 276.75 while
Matthew Mintz placed third in the 1-meter with 269.16 points.
The Dutchmen will be off for few weeks before taking part in the UNYSCSA Championships from February 18-21.
