Flyers sign former Dutchman Shayne Gostisbehere to multi-year extension

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.— The Philadelphia Flyers have extended the contract of former Dutchman Shayne Gostisbehere, as announced by General Manager Ron Hextall.

Gostisbehere's new deal is a reported six-year, $27 million contract.

A Philadelphia third-round selection (78th overall) in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Gostisbehere has made 142 career appearance for the Flyers, compiling 24 goals and 61 assists for 85 points. In his rookie season in 2015-16, he scored 17 goals and added 29 assists and was named a finalist for the NHL's Calder Trophy as the league's top rookie. He also produced a 15-game point streak, setting a NHL rookie defenseman record.

The Pembroke Pines, Fla. native also represented Team North America at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.

Gostisbehere was the 2013-14 ECAC Hockey Co-Player of the Year, the 2014 Frozen Four Most Outstanding Player, and a two-time All-America honoree with the Dutchmen, finishing his career with 22 goals and 60 assists in 119 games.
