Last Time Out
Union moved to 2-0 on the season with a 28-10 win at Coast Guard last week. First year wide receiverÂ
Andre Ross Jr. had 16 catches (the second-most in school history) for 215 yards and three touchdowns, including a game-high 70-yard return.
Sophomore QBÂ
Will Bellamy threw for a total of 365 yards, setting a program single-game record with 39 completions. Union's defense limited limited Coast Guard's run game to just 65 yards.
Jack Reilly had one sack for a 23-yard loss, he also led the Dutchmen with seven total tackles. The Dutchmen intercepted three Coast Guard passes, two byÂ
Tucker Newman and one byÂ
Andrew Kielar. Union went 3-for-3 on fourth-down conversions.
Union vs. Springfield
Springfield and Union played each other every year between 2010 and 2016, but did not meet last season. The last Union win against Springfield was on Oct. 5, 2013, as the Dutchmen defeated the Pride 27-7 on Stagg Field. The last time these two teams met was on Oct. 8, 2016, during head coach
Jeff Behrman's first season, as the Pride claimed a 17-3 victory at Frank Bailey Field.
Airing Out the Pigskin
The Dutchmen rank ninth in the nation for passing offense, averaging 367.5 yards per game. With 735 yards through two games, Union ranks seventh in the nation for total passing yards. Sophomore QB
Will Bellamy is second in the nation for both passing yards and passing yards per game. He is also ranked 13th in the nation for completion percentage (.716) and 18th in passing efficiency (172.3).
Who's Back
The Dutchmen return 74 letterwinners from last season's squad, including 2017 All-Liberty League First Team honorees
Jack Reilly (line backer) and
Griffin Beal (wide receiver). Union also returns four Second Team All-Liberty League honorees in
Ryan Ehrets (offensive line),
Vincent DiCaterino (defensive line),
Bobby Law (defensive line), and
Tucker Newman (defensive back).
Look for Union's defense to be a strength during the 2018 season, as nine of the 11 positions will be filled by returning veterans.
In the Back Field
In addition to finding a new quarterback, Union will also have a new starting running back after the graduation of
Connor Kinzelmann. Sophomore
Travis Demby is the returning tail back with the most experience, having ran for 200 yards during the 2017 campaign, and has a team-leading 28 carries so far this year. First year
Ike Irabor also has 21 carries through the first two games.
