SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women's ice hockey team continues their regular season schedule on the road, heading west to face off against the Lindenwood Lions on Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m.

FINDING OUR STRIDE

  • During the weekend, the Dutchwomen allowed only one goal in a span of three periods spread out through the two games between nationally-ranked Northeastern and Boston University.
  • Union arguable had the better play in the opening period versus BU, outshooting the Terriers by a 10-9 margin and creating a wide number of solid scoring opportunities.
  • First-year goaltender Bella McKee made 62 saves during the weekend, keeping the game between the Terriers close at a 2-1 score.
  • Union College also scored their first goal at Messa Rink this season, courtesy of first-year forward Leah Herrfort to get Union on the board.

WE MEET AGAIN

  • Friday will mark the 3rd matchup between the two teams, with the first meeting being last season at Messa Rink.
  • The Dutchwomen are 1-1 against Lindenwood, and were outshot by the Lions in the series, 57-44.
  • The last meeting of the two teams was decided by just one goal, with Sierra Lee scoring the game-winner for Union, with a pass from junior Angelica Melone and junior Makayla Mori to give the Dutchwomen the win with a 3-2 score.
  • Senior goaltender Amelia Murray started in net against the Lions, and made 31 saves in the close win.

THE NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK

  • Union has six new faces on the team this season, all making an impact for the Dutchwomen early.
  • All six first-year players have recieved playing time in at least two games this season.

LAST WEEKEND:

  • The Dutchwomen came back to Messa Rink for their home opener versus #4 Northeastern on Friday, and continued the weekend with #8 Boston University on Sunday.
  • The nationally-ranked Huskies scored five goals in the first period, but Union defense improved in the second and third, allowing no Northeastern goals on nine shots on goal. First-year goalie Bella McKee started her tenure in net after the fourth goal and shined in relief of senior goalie Amelia Murray.
  • McKee's just one goal allowed on 31 shots gave her a stellar .968 save percentage on the night.
  • In the game against Boston University, first-year forward Leah Herrfort scored her first career goal in the second period, but it still wasn't enough in the 2-1 loss to the Terriers.
  • Union had arguably the better play of the period, by outshooting BU, 10-9.
  • However, the nationally-ranked Terriers struck first, with a goal from senior Sammy Davis in the final minute of the opening period. Davis picked up a deflection from teammate Haylee Blinkhorn's shot, and scored in front of the net. Abbey Stanley picked up the secondary assist on the play.
  • Davis' second goal on the power play in the second secured them the close 2-1 win.
  • Union was outshot by the Terriers, 34-23, and McKee finished with 32 saves in her first career start at Messa Rink.

OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAINS?
