This Weekend
The Dutchmen start the new season on Saturday, Oct. 5, hosting Boston University for a 4 p.m. (ET) game. The game will be one of the first two games of the 2019-20 season, the other being Maine vs Providence which will also start at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
Union will then continue the weekend with a Sunday contest, taking on Army West Point at Tate Rink for another 4 p.m. game.

vs Boston University
Union enters Saturday with 2-2-1 all-time record against Boston University. The Terriers and the Dutchmen met last year in the championship game of the 2018 Friendship Four in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Union defeated Boston University, 2-1, to claim the Friendship Four title.
Parker Foo scored the game-winning goal against the Terriers and
Darion Hanson made 39 saves.
Prior to the win in Belfast, Union lost two games against the Terriers in Boston in 2017. The last time the two teams played in Schenectady was on Oct. 10, 2015 and resulted in a 5-3 Dutchmen victory.
Scouting the Terriers
After posting a 16-18-4 record in 2018-19, Boston University brings in 11 new faces to its program for 2019-20. Of the 11 new players, five were members of the U.S. National Under-18 Team, and six have been drafted by NHL teams. The Terriers feature a total of 12 players that have been drafted.
BU lost its top two scorers from last year, Joel Farabee (17g, 19a) and Dante Fabbro (7g, 26a). The top returning scorer from last season's team is senior forward Patrick Curry (13g, 13a). In net, the Terriers lost Jake Oettinger, and the top returning netminder in terms of minutes played is sophomore Vinnie Purpura, who held an 0-2-0 record last season with a .911 save percentage and a 3.16 goals-against average.
vs Army West Point
Union owns a 14-1-1 all-time record against the Black Knights. The Dutchmen opened the 2018-19 season last year at home against Army West Point, skating to a 4-1 victory. Army's only win against Union came in the series' first meeting on Nov. 7, 1999, as the Black Knights won 6-5 at Messa Rink. At Tate Rink, Union is undefeated against the Black Knights, having gone 6-0-1 in seven meetings.
Scouting the Black Knights
Army posted a record of 12-20-7 during the 2018-19 season. The Black Knights' top scorer last season was senior defenseman Dalton MacAfee (19g, 25a). However, Army returns the remaining four of its top-five scorers: seniors Zach Evancho (10g, 19a); Alex Wilkinson (4g, 22a); Dominic Franco (14g, 8a); and Brendan Soucie (8g, 12a). In net, junior Jared Dempsey played the majority of the team's minutes last year, posting a 3-10-2 record with a .896 save percentage and a 2.96 goals-against average.
How 2018-19 Ended
Union finished the 2018-19 season in the quarterfinals of the ECAC Hockey playoffs against Cornell. The Dutchmen defeated the Big Red in the first game of the series, 3-2, but lost the second and third games of the series, 4-0 and 4-2.

Noteworthy: Union got on the board first behind a goal from
Sebastian Vidmar in the middle of the second period. After Cornell tied the game at 1-1, Union appeared to take a 2-1 lead, but the officials overturned the Dutchman goal after review, which led to Cornell taking a 2-1 lead before the end of the second period.
Cole Maier scored his ninth of the year at the 10:40 mark of the third period to tie the game up at 2-2.
Brett Supinski then scored less than five minutes later to put the Dutchmen on top 3-2.
Darion Hanson made 32 saves, including 15 in the third period alone, to help lead the Dutchmen to victory.

Noteworthy: Cornell scored two goals in the first 2:02 of the game to set the tone early. The Big Red would end up out-shooting Union 33-15. A combined total of 72 penalty minutes were assessed in the game, but neither team could convert on the power play.
Darion Hanson made 29 saves in net for Union, while Matthew Galajda stopped all 15 shots he faced.

Anthony Rinaldi and
Sean Harrison scored back-to-back goals for the Dutchmen to put Union up 2-1 in the first period. Cornell scored three unanswered goals after the first period, including one on the power play. Union was given four penalties in the third period, and went 5-for-6 on the PK in the contest.
Darion Hanson made 30 saves in net for the Dutchmen, while Matthew Galajda had 27 for Cornell.
