CLIFTON SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Union College women's golf team shot a round of 357 to sit in fourth place out of nine teams after day one of the William Smith Invitational, held on Saturday at Clifton Springs Country Club.
The Dutchwomen are 22 strokes back of first-place Hamilton College at the midway point of the weekend, while also sitting within 15 strokes of Ithaca College (342) and 10 strokes of SUNY Cortland (348).
Playing in the top five for the first time in her collegiate career, freshman
Alexandra Cymbal carded a team-best round of 86 to sit in 10th place after day one. The highlights of her day included a birdie on the par-three 7th hole and a birdie on the par-five 18th, two of the three recorded by Union golfers on the day.
Senior
Molly Wiener sits in 13th place after day one following a round of 88, two strokes better than the 90 put up by junior
Lisa Spagnuolo. Junior
Juls Sweet carded a 93 thanks to a birdie on the 18th hole and sophomore
Kiara Beckham added a 96 to round out Union's scorers, while freshman
Colleen Buckley added a 94 playing as an individual.
The teams will be back on the course tomorrow morning for the second and final day of the William Smith Invitational beginning at 9:30 a.m.
