ROME, N.Y. – The Union College women's golf team closed out the 2025-26 season by finishing fourth out of seven teams at the Liberty League Championships, held at Teugega Country Club on Friday and Saturday.
Union shot a round of 351 on Saturday's second day of competition, finishing the two days at 670 to end up 19 strokes back of Ithaca College in third place. #4 New York University returned to the top spot after a one-year absence with a two-day score of 582, good for a 21-stroke victory over #14 Wellesley College.
Sophomore
Iyene Essien was the only player not from NYU or Wellesley to earn All-Conference first- or second-team honors, as she carded a 77 on Saturday to finish in a three-way for eighth place at 152 and earn All-Liberty League second-team laurels. She was one of five players to shoot even-par or better on the par-threes over the weekend, and also tied for second in the field with 23 pars, including 12 to go with six bogeys on Saturday. Essien finished the season by breaking the program single-season scoring record for the second straight year, averaging 76.69 strokes per round in 16 rounds.
Sophomore
Carinna Anastasio came two spots on the leaderboard and five shots overall from All-Conference honors for herself, finishing the event at 167 after an 86 on day two to tie for 15th.
Senior
Shea White closed out her stellar collegiate career with a 171 to tie for 17th place, closing with a back-nine 42 to shoot an 89 on Saturday. She finished the season with an 84.79 scoring average, which ranks 10th on the school single-season list, while her 86.77 career scoring average over 44 rounds is the fourth-lowest in program history as well.
First-year
Emma Doherty came two strokes short of the top-20, finishing in a tie for 21st place following a two-day score of 182. Sophomore
Ella Golas provided the team's fourth score of Sunday with a round of 99, putting her at 196 for the championship.
Union finished the year with the third-lowest single-season scoring average in program history, averaging 342.9 strokes per round in a record-tying 16 rounds.
