Final Leaderboard
CLIFTON SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Union College women's golf team shaved six strokes off of yesterday's score but could not move up the leaderboard, finishing in fourth place out of nine teams at the William Smith Invitational, held on Saturday and Sunday at Clifton Springs Country Club.
The Dutchwomen shot a round of 351 on Sunday, placing the team fourth with a two-day score of 708. The team finished 18 strokes back of SUNY Cortland for third place and 46 strokes clear of fifth-place Nazareth College. Hamilton College won the event with a two-day score of 655.
Senior
Molly Wiener earned her second top-10 finish of the season, shooting a team-best round of 82 on Sunday to finish at 170. The senior was excellent on the par-fives all weekend, posting three birdies on Sunday to help her finish even on the course's five longest holes. Her birdie on the 8th hole helped her to a two-over 38 on the front side on Sunday.
Junior
Lisa Spagnuolo and freshman
Alexandra Cymbal also posted top-15 finishes for Union as well. Spagnuolo fired a round of 84 on Sunday to finish 13th overall at 174, finishing her weekend on the right foot with a birdie on the par-five 18th. Cymbal completed her first weekend of competitive collegiate action with a 90, giving her a two-day score of 176 that was good for 14th.
Junior
Juls Sweet carded a 95 on Sunday to finish the weekend at 188 and sophomore
Kiara Beckham ended up 33rd with a two-day score of 194, while freshman
Colleen Buckley competed as an individual and tied for 24th overall at 184.
The Dutchwomen will take a few weeks off from competition before returning to action on October 5-6 at the Williams Fall Invitational.
