With the spring sports season canceled at its very beginning (or before it even started, for some Union teams) due to the COVID-19 pandemic, UnionAthletics.com will spend the next few months spotlighting many of the Union seniors whose athletic careers came to a premature end. Previous senior profiles can be viewed by heading to http://www.unionathletics.com/seniorspotlights.
Â
Oxholm has spent time in multiple boats during her four years with the crew team. She sat in the second varsity 8 boat as a freshman, while seeing time in the varsity 8, second varsity 8 and varsity 4 boats during her sophomore season. She has continued to row primarily with the second varsity 8 during her junior year before moving into a consistent role in the varsity 8 boat as a senior, manning the 2-seat as Union won the Head of the Hudson regatta to start the year.
Â
In addition to her time on the water, Oxholm is a senior Admissions intern and a tour guide. The Spanish and psychology double major also earned a spot on the Liberty League All-Academic Team last year as well.

What has been your favorite moment as a student-athlete at Union?
I think that a unique aspect about my time as an athlete as Union as there is not just one moment that stands out to me. Taking that into consideration, the times that I look back upon most fondly are the training trips I have taken during spring break with my team. It is so incredible to be able to devote undivided time to your sport and your teammates.
Â
How has being a student-athlete at Union benefited you over the last four years?
It has taught me to be persistent and resilient in not just an athletic sphere, but in my academic and professional life too. Being a teammate is a huge part of who I am, both on the water and in the classroom, and that has been refined during my time as a student-athlete.Â
Â
What has been your most meaningful experience outside of athletics?
Definitely my experience studying abroad. Being able to learn outside of the classroom is something Union does so well and the experiences offered internationally epitomize that ability to become global learners.
Â
Who was/is your favorite professor at Union and why?
Professor Maritza Osuna [Senior Lecturer of Spanish] in the Spanish Department. She will always go above and beyond for her students, regardless of the circumstances, to ensure that we're growing. I took a translation class with her this past fall where we got to work with documents that would help our immediate community. She also helped me prepare for an interviewÂ
for weeks, facetiming at night and meeting frequently. She always challenges you and simultaneously supports you unconditionally.
Â
Do you have plans for post-graduation yet? If so, what are they?
I am looking to go into education! I am still in the process of hearing back from fellowships and jobs, but am excited to pursue whatever opportunity comes my way.
Â
What advice would you give to younger athletes about their time at Union?
Be present, be involved, and cherish every moment, even the ugly ones, because you never know when they may end.Â
