Dutchmen hand out annual team awards

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College men's hockey team announced its team award winners for the 2019-20 season.
 
Junior forward Josh Kosack was the recipient of the Coaches Award and the team's Scott Richardson Unsung Hero Award. The native of Oakville, Ontario was named one of the team's captains this season and also made a name for himself off the ice with his charitable cause "Kozi's Kids," an initiative he started this season to better utilize unused game tickets in order to bring kids and parents from the Schenectady community to Union hockey teams. On the ice, Kosack skated in all 37 games and finished the season with two goals and five assists.
 
Defenseman Dylan Anhorn was named the team's Rookie of the Year. Hailing from Calgary, Alberta, the first-year blueliner finished third on the team in scoring with six goals and 10 assists. Among all first-year defensemen in ECAC Hockey, he finished tied for third in points.
 
The team's Most Valuable Player award went to junior netminder Darion Hanson. The East Bethel, Minn., native started a career-high 36 games this season and recorded a .910 save percentage and a 2.79 goals-against average. He finished the season with 1,007 total saves, second most in the nation.
 
First-year forward Matt Allen was named the team's Most Improved Player. A Smithfield, R.I., native, Allen finished the season playing in the final 17 games, recording six of his seven points in that span. In the final weekend of the season, Allen scored one goal and tallied one assist in the playoff series at Yale.
 
The Thomas Van Arden Dukehart Academic Award went to first-year netminder Merek Pipes. The Cobble Hill, British Columbia native is majoring in Computer Engineering.
 
Sophomore Fletcher Fineman was awarded the team's Charlie N. Morrison award, given annually to a player who participates in extracurricular activities while demonstrating academic interest and achievement. The native of Lake Worth, Fla., Fineman played a utility role for the Dutchmen this season, skating as both a forward and defenseman. On Nov. 11, Fineman scored his first collegiate goal in a 3-0 win at Canisius.
