Senior Spotlight: Emily Quinn

Following the great success of our spring Senior Spotlights, UnionAthletics.com will spend the next few weeks spotlighting many of the Union seniors from all 26 Union varsity sports! Previous senior profiles can be viewed by heading to http://www.unionathletics.com/seniorspotlights.

Emily Quinn has been a four-year mainstay with the Union women's swimming and diving team. She earned the Liberty League title in the 200 breaststroke as a sophomore in 2018 and went on two a pair of All-Liberty League honors in the 200 and 100 breaststroke during her final two years as well. The senior has been the team's top breaststroker for all four seasons, posting the top time in the 50, 100 and 200 breast every year since arriving on campus, and also has posted the team's top 100 butterfly time in each of the last three years.

What has been your favorite moment as a student-athlete at Union?

My favorite memories on the swim team were during our training trips and Conference Championships. Although both of these events were physically and mentally challenging, the team always came together to get through the hard days, support one another and to build each other up.

How has being a student-athlete at Union benefited you over the last four years?

Being a student athlete over the past four years has taught me how to manage my time, handle adversity and most importantly how to learn through failure. I've learned that not every race will be perfect, and not every practice will feel 100% - but each day is a new opportunity to get back on my feet and work harder than the last.

What has been your most meaningful experience outside of athletics?

One of the most meaningful experiences that I've had at Union was the opportunity each September to volunteer with my teammates at the Lord Acre Fair in Burnt Hills. Through providing extra hands and strength, my teammates and I were able to come together to assist the community for a great cause, and to get to know each other before the start of our season.

What advice (if any) would you give to younger athletes about their time at Union?

I would tell younger athletes to love the comradery, appreciate the discipline, and learn to cherish that 5am wake up call. Someday you'll miss walking to practice at dawn.
