Bourque and King Named ECAC Players of the Week

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. – Senior Emily King found the back of the net three times over the weekend and first-year Stephanie Bourque tallied three helpers to help the Union College women's ice hockey team post a 1-1-0 record against the College of Holy Cross. King was named ECAC Hockey Forward of the Week and Bourque earned ECAC Hockey Defensive Player of the Week, the League announced Tuesday morning.

King totaled three goals and an assist over the weekend. In Friday's game King tallied a goal and an assist, picking up a helper on Union's first goal of the game and then scoring at the 18:11 mark of the third period to cut into the Holy Cross lead. Union fell 4-3 to the Crusaders on Friday evening.

In Saturday's game, King found the back of the net twice, including the game winner in a 3-1 win over the Crusaders. King scored the game's first goal at the 9:32 mark of the first period. After receiving a drop pass from first-year Reese Chuback, King drove the net and flipped the puck past the Holy Cross netminder.

King extended Union's lead at the 15:59 with her second goal of the afternoon and third of the weekend. King took a shot from the far-right circle and beat the goaltender inside of the right post.

Bourque registered three assists over the weekend, with two of the assists coming on the power-play. Bourque earned her first collegiate point with a secondary assist on Union's first goal of the game. Bourque carried the puck from behind the net and through center ice before passing off to King, who gained the blue line and distributed to first-year Riley Walsh for the goal.

Bourque earned her second assist of the game on the power-play as well. This time she was able to block a clear from the Holy Cross defender and settle the puck before delivering a perfect pass to first-year Amanda Quan, who buried the one timer into the back of the net. She grabbed her third assist of the evening on King's goal. Bourque is the first Union player since Cheyenne Harris tallied three assists against brown back on October 27, 2017.

King and Bourque are the first pair of Union teammates to win awards on the same weekend since October 18, 2016, when Abby Ellis earned Rookie of the Week honors and Kate Spooner was named Goaltender of the Week.

Union (2-2-0) will get back on the ice this weekend as they travel to Hockey East foes, Providence and Boston University. Friday's game against Providence College is slated to begin at 2 p.m. from Schnieder Rink.
