SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Union College men's hockey head coach
Josh Hauge announced Thursday that seniors
Owen Farris and
Connor Murphy and junior
Ben Tupker will serve as captains for the 2022-23 season.
"As a coaching staff, we are really excited to name Farris, Murphy, and Tupker as captains," said Hauge. "These three do things the right way: they prepare well, work hard, and do all the little things right, which sets a positive example for the rest of the team. Not only are they great hockey players, but they are even better people. We're looking forward to seeing them lead the team this season."
Farris has been a role model both on and off the ice. The economics major from Dallas is a three-time member of the ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team. Farris also serves as a member of the Athletic Liaison Committee and on the General Education Board. The forward has skated in 63 career games with 14 points (6-8-14).
Murphy has manned the crease since he stepped foot on campus last season. The managerial economics major from Hudson Falls, N.Y. was Union's Most Valuable Player in the 2021-22 season and was a recipient of the William A. Pike '60 Award. Murphy has started 46 games and posted a 17-22-4 record with a .913 save percentage and a 2.83 GAA. His four shutouts are tied for sixth in Union's Division I era in career shutouts and he also set the single-season save record last season with 1,060 stops. His 51 saves at Maine on December 21, 2021 are good for ninth in single-game records.
Tupker has made an immediate impact on the ice and in the locker room since coming to Union. The ECAC Hockey veteran is coming off a career year for nationally-ranked Cornell University. The junior managerial economics major from Collingwood, Ontario has played every game for the Dutchmen this season and has scored two goals while blocking seven shots.
