Josh Kosack Named ECAC Hockey Student-Athlete of the Year

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. – Senior captain Josh Kosack of the Union College men's hockey team was named the ECAC Hockey Student-Athlete of the Year, the conference announced Thursday.

Kosack becomes the fourth Union student-athlete to earn this distinction, joining Stephane Boileau (2011), Matt Cook (2009), and Olivier Bouchard (2007). Union ties Cornell with the most honorees since the award's inception in 2007.

The Student-Athlete of the Year award is presented annually to an ECAC Hockey men's player who best establishes himself as a leader within their team, in the classroom, and in the community. Each institution nominates one student-athlete. Kosack was a finalist for the award in 2021.

Kosack is putting up career numbers in his final year, producing 14 points (8-6-14) through 37 games. In his career, the forward has played in 132 games, producing 30 points (14-16-30). The economics major boasts one of the highest GPAs on the team and is a four-time member ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team. He was also named to the 2021 CoSIDA Division I Academic All-District At-Large Team.

Off the ice, Kosack has made a tremendous impact on the community, launching his Kozi's Kids initiative to bring local children to Union hockey games during the season. Over the past two years, Kosack has raised over $50,000 for C.O.C.O.A. House (Children of Our Community Open to Achievement) House in Schenectady, helping with their annual Christmas toy drive to benefit kids in the Capital Region, purchasing laptops to assist with online learning, and funding the building of a Kozi's Kids Lounge in C.O.C.O.A. House's second location. For his community involvement, Kosack was named a finalist for the Hockey Humanitarian Award for the second straight season, the winner of which will be announced in April.
