Jacobs Tabbed as Liberty League Rookie of the Week

TROY, N.Y. – Following an undefeated week on the singles courts, first-year Ben Jacobs of the Union College men's tennis team was honored by the conference office as the Liberty League Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Jacobs fought through a pair of tough second-singles matches over the weekend, winning all four sets by a single break. He helped the Dutchmen clinch a victory on Friday against Rochester Institute of Technology with a 6-4, 6-4 win at second singles over Grahith Movva, and then came back from a set down to beat Vassar College's Mathew Yee on Saturday in a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 comeback victory, one of only two singles wins for Union on the day.

As a first-year, Jacobs is tied for the team lead with 10 singles victories this season, including five victories at the second-singles flight. He has come on strong in recent weeks, winning his last three singles contests and posting a 6-4 mark in his last 10 outings.

The Dutchmen have two more non-conference tests left on the regular-season schedule, beginning with the home finale against SUNY Oneonta on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the Union Tennis Courts.
