CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. – First-year
John Prokop of the Union College men's hockey team was named to the ECAC Hockey All-Rookie Team, the conference announced Thursday evening.
Prokop was one of six skaters to appear in every game and was the only blueliner to skate in every game. The Wausau, Wisc. native led the team in scoring with 23 points (4-19-23) in 35 games and finished fifth on the team with 32 blocked shots.
The blueliner scored his first collegiate point in his season debut, picking up the primary assist on the game-winning goal. The first-year tallied a season-high three assists against Bentley. Prokop found the back of the net on the powerplay against New Hampshire for his first collegiate goal, which turned into the game winner. On the season, Prokop recorded six multi-point games.
The defenseman earned ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week accolades twice this season, once on October 17 and the other on February 27.
Prokop is the first rookie defenseman in Union's Division I history to lead the team in scoring. The last defenseman to lead the team in scoring was
Brandon Estes in the 2021-22 season and the last rookie to lead in points was Adam Presizniuk in the 2007-08 season.
Prokop becomes the first member of the All-Rookie Team since
Dylan Anhorn and
Gabriel Seger were honored in the 2019-20 season.
