SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Highlighted by a second-place finish by the Varsity 4+ A boat in the final, the Union College women's crew team put together a strong showing at the New York State Collegiate Championships at Fish Creek on Saturday morning.
In a highly competitive final, the team of junior Katie Riley (coxswain), sophomore Sara Beckwith (stroke), senior Grace Parini (3 seat), sophomore Julia Cole (2 seat), and junior Marlena Fornuto (bow) finished with a time of 8:59.093, almost 16 seconds behind the winning boat from Stony Brook, but only 0.304 seconds ahead of the third-place boat from Hamilton College.
The Frosh/Novice 4+ finished in second (9:02.486) behind Long Island University and ahead of Army, St. Lawrence, Binghamton, and Stony Brook. Union's boat was comprised of first-year Melina McGovern (coxswain), first-year Sadie White (stroke), sophomore Olivia Anderson (3 seat), junior Ann Zhang (2 seat), and first-year Ashley Hughes (bow)
Union's Varsity 4+ B boat finished in fourth in the final with a time of 9:11.479, ahead of Binghamton University and St. John Fisher University. Competing for Union was first-year Khadija Amir (coxswain), senior Alexis Henrikson (stroke), senior Kiley Kirkpatrick (3 seat), senior Emily Landry (2 seat), and sophomore Claire Schroder (bow).
This marks the final race of the 2023 season for the team and the final collegiate races for the senior class. Union will return to action in the fall.
