Box Score GENEVA, N.Y. – The Union College women's tennis team reached five finals and saw several excellent performances to close out the opening weekend of the season at the Mary Hosking Invitational, hosted by William Smith College at the HWS Tennis Center on Saturday and Sunday.
 
Union reached a pair of finals and came away with two consolation titles on the weekend, as every Union entry won at least one match.
 
The "C" Singles semifinals featured an all-Union affair, as sophomore doubles teammates 
Skylar Semon and 
Claire Langille met on opposite sides of the net. Semon advanced to the finals with an 8-1 win. Semon then came up a tiebreaker short of the "C" singles title, as she dropped an 8-7 (7-2) set in a tiebreaker to Neha Dania.
 
Semon also reached the "B" Doubles final back alongside Langille, as the pair got past Kayla Shenk and Sabrina Cheung in the semifinals. The pair came a few points away from the title, falling 8-7 (7-4) to Lauren Rodriguez and Kendal Curley in the final.
 
Fellow sophomore 
Kennedy Alexis also made the semifinals of the "D" Singles bracket, but dropped an 8-4 match to Shenk.
 
Senior 
Gracie Nicol and sophomore 
Chara Meidani met in the finals of the "A" Singles consolation bracket after advancing past the semifinals on Sunday morning. Nicol made her way to the final via a walkover, while Meidani outlasted Natalie Haythorn, 8-6. In the final, Meidani earned team bragging rights with an 8-4 victory over Nicol.
 
Back on the same side of the net, the pair earned two more victories to take the "A" Doubles consolation bracket. Nicol and Meidani defeated Maddy Buck and Jamie Fine by an 8-2 score before taking down Haythorn and Haley Levine, 8-6, in the final.
Sophomore 
Sydney Alphabet also captured the "D" Singles consolation bracket as well, winning two matches on Sunday. She made quick work of Elena DeRiso in the semifinals before sweeping past Mia Tetrault.
 
First-year 
Luisa Arizpe Sierra nearly booked a spot in the "B" Singles consolation final as well, but came up two points short in an 8-7 (8-6) loss to Jasmin Toor.
 
The Garnet Chargers will be back in action next weekend as the team hosts the annual Union Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at the Union Tennis Courts.
