SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Three members of the Union College football team were recognized by D3football.com for their successes on the gridiron this season, as seniors
Cole DaSilva and
Nate Sullivan and sophomore
Hayden Hall were named to the D3football.com All-Region 2 third team on Wednesday.
All three players are recognized by D3football.com for the first time in their careers. The three honorees give Union five straight seasons with at least three players named to an All-Region squad and mark the second-most honorees for any Liberty League team this season.
DaSilva is recognized after previously picking up his second straight All-Liberty League honor, coming after a huge season in the middle of the Union defensive unit. The senior racked up 121 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and two sacks in 10 games, an average of 12.1 tackles per game. He finished the year fourth in Division III in tackles per game and 20th in solo tackles per game (5.7/gm) with a total that ranks fourth on the school single-season list and the most by a Union player since 2009. He ended the season with three straight games of 15 tackles or more, including a career-high 17 against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute that ranks sixth on the school single-game list. His 269 career tackles are tied for sixth all-time at the school as well.
Sullivan is named to the All-Region team at long snapper after earning his third All-Conference recognition in four seasons both for his work in the defensive backfield and on special teams. On special teams, he served as the team's primary long-snapper and did not record a bad snap on field goals or punts all season, and also caught a pair of successful two-point conversion attempts against Maritime and Montclair State. In addition to his work on special teams, he also set a new career high with 54 tackles and recorded one interception and three passes defended as a senior, giving him 147 tackles and seven picks over his four-year career.
Hall earns his first All-Region honor on the heels of his first All-Conference selection in his first year with the Garnet Chargers. Hall averaged 41.5 yards per punt over 44 boots, the highest average for a Union player in 60 years and the second-highest average in program history. He put 15 kicks inside the opponent's 20-yard line and had 11 kicks of 50 or more yards, including a season-long 63-yarder against the University of Rochester. The sophomore finished the season with the 10th-best punting average in Division III and helped anchor a unit that ranked fifth in the country in net punting, averaging 39.5 net yards per kick.
With the three selections, Union has had 48 players earn D3football.com All-Region honors since its first season in 2005.
