SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women's crew team faced gorgeous weather for their senior day race against Vassar College on Saturday morning on the Mohawk River.

The team enjoyed one final race at home with flat water and a slight tailwind from the southeast in the 1900-meter course.

Union won two of the three races against the Brewers. The 2nd Varsity 8+ team won in 6:58, six seconds ahead of Vassar. Union's boat consisted of sophomore Khadija Amira (coxswain), first-year Sarah Hannan (stroke), senior Marlena Fornuto (7 seat),first-year Susanna Harrow (6 seat), Olivia Werkema (5 seat), senior Ann Zhang (4 seat), first-year Emma Friedman (3 seat), first-year Amy Gagliardi (2 seat), and junior Claire Schroder (bow).

The Frosh/Novice 4+ boat won by 27 seconds over Vassar with a time of 7:47. Union's winning boat was made up of sophomore Melina McGovern (coxswain), Hannan (stroke), Werkema (3 seat), Harrow (2 seat), and first-year Mariah Jackson.

The Varsity 8+ placed second, but made large improvements from the last time the Brewers and Garnet Chargers Raced. Union finished the race in 6:53, 21 seconds back from Vassar. Union's boat was made up of senior Katie Riley (coxswain), junior Sara Beckwith (stroke), Grace Parini (7 seat), junior Julia Cole (6 seat), junior Lena Nowell (5 seat), sophomore Sadie White (4 seat), Carly Thompson (3 seat), junior Olivia Anderson (2 seat), and senior Ella Tycz (bow).

After racing concluded for the day, Union honored the five members of the senior class: Marlena Fornuto, Grace Parini, Katie Riley, Ella Tycz, and Ann Zhang.

Union is back in the water on Friday for the Liberty League Championships held on Fish Creek in Saratoga Springs. A preview with the race schedule will be available on UnionAthletics.com prior to race day.
